  • BetaCorr Corrugated Analyzer

The BetaCorr Corrugated Analyzer (unique Beta Product) repeatably measures all critical corrugating production parameters to help you produce a better, more profitable product for your customers while reducing rejects and unusable product. The BetaCorr's structured illumination, anamorphic imaging, automatic image stitching and analysis for vertical resolution better than 0.0005 inch and a field of view  greater than 1.5 inches, offering extremely high sensitivity to height variations and the ability to measure the coarsest fluting.

Operation is simple and intuitive for the production worker, with both data and images automatically collected and analyzed to satisfy the most critical QC manager. The success of any packaging is critically linked to its appearance. The appearance of your packaging is the only possibility to make your product stand out from all the others. The many advantages of corrugated in strength, weight, and environmental friendliness are immediately lost when washboard effect, cockling, and fluting defects spoil its appearance. The BetaCorr brings these defects under control and helps you produce a better and more profitable product.

    Features Benefits
Non‐contact optical measurement system requires no sample preparation or transfer media Time‐consuming and error‐prone manual techniques are eliminated
Simple and robust mechanical system can be brought directly to the production floor No delicate or fragile equipment to be damaged by production personnel
Fully automatic analysis produces graphical and numerical results Subjective judgment of impression prints is eliminated, measurement error is avoided
Numerical results are automatically saved and running statistics are displayed Manual record keeping and potential loss of data is eliminated, no secondary operations are required to generate process control data
Evaluation of WBE (wash board effect) is fast and efficient, allowing real‐time adjustment of the process Subjective judgment is eliminated, graphical and numeric results confirm changes to the process
Rapid and repeatable measurement of WBE allows screening of incoming goods for suitability for a required quality level Avoid job failure due to low quality board or qualify inventory for high‐value jobs
Measure creasing and scoring properties to adjust tooling to produce optimum results Avoid subjective judgment and potential over‐ or under‐impression leading to liner rupture or poor folding

    Washboard Effect

Washboarding occurs when the glue shrinks in between the liner and the fluting of the board during drying. Measure and correct washboarding to improve the performance of the boxes under load and for washboard reduction. Washboard Depth  is linearly related to the amount of glue applied. Washboard Effect is highly dependent on relative humidity and decreases linearly with increases in relative humidity. Calculating WBE requires extremely sensitive height measurements while accurate measurements of flatness and flute pitch require large areas to be measured. These conflicting requirements are solved by the use of sequential image capture and stitching. BetaCorr captures 5 high resolution images and creates a compound image over 1.5 inches (3.81 centimeters) wide.

    Reduce Washboard effect by applying:

    • Correct Moisture
    • Correct glue amount
    • Correct Hot plate temperatures on Double facer
    • Correct speed difference between single-faced web and glue roll

It is not cost-efficient to use the Liner as the one and only variable to reduce the washboard effect!

    Flute Profiling

Measuring the flute profile on single faced material to check mechanical wear of the corrugating rolls, comparing OS, DS, middle and correct formation of the flutes DOES NOT REQUIRE A CARBON PRINT. The answer is seen instantly when you see the end result. Poor flute uniformity is a common cause of Washboard Effect in flexo post print.

    • The correct flute height is a prerequisite to minimize the glue applied.
    • A uniform flute height from left to right is a prerequisite to guarantee perfect
      bonding.
    • Minimize glue consumption and reduce washboard effect and costs.

    Crease Profiles

Creasing and scoring are critical steps in the box-forming process.

    • Measure the CREASING and SCORING on corrugated board to predict the performance in folding and box stability.
    • Creasing and scoring lines are stressed due to 180° folding for transportation and storage.
    • Creasing and scoring lines define the symmetry and size of the box.
