Why is neutral gray specified and important for color viewing?

It eliminates the "simultaneous color contrast". For example, a red pattern on a blue background has an orange tinge. For the eye to see the color accurately, the environment must be chromatically neutral.

It minimizes the "color contamination" of the viewing areas caused by reflections from chromatic surfaces. When the D50 or D65 standard illumination is reflected from colored walls, etc., the color quality changes to no longer "standard". Applying neutral gray tone to chromatic surfaces eliminates such color contamination by providing spectrally neutral surfaces around the viewing area.

Application and Use

This paint is ideal for use in color viewing areas which require Munsell N8 or N7 gray surround as specified by ISO 3664:2000. This paint is specially formulated to have a spectrally flat response without any color bias. Standard Gray Neutral 7 or Standard Gray Neutral 8 is awater-reducible vinyl latex available in one gallon or one pint cans, for convenient application by roller, spray gun,or brush.

One pint provides an approximate coverage of 56.25 square feet per pint.
Any vinyl-latex primer can be used to prepare the walls.

Formulated for use in color viewing areas in the graphic arts and photographic industries which require a neutral gray surround equivalent to Munsell N8.

A slightly darker tone specifically formulated for use in color viewing areas in the paints, plastics, textiles, and other non-graphics related industries which require a neutral gray surround equivalent to Munsell N7.

NOT ALL GRAY ARE NEUTRAL

A "neutral" gray is not simply a black-white mix, but an equal mixture of all the spectrum(r-o-y-g-b-i-v) colors. A spectrophotometric measurement of such a gray will show it to contain approximately equal amounts of those spectrum colors. Non-neutral grays, however, have unequal amounts of the spectrum colors, causing a cold or warm color shift under differing lighting conditions.

A neutral paint minimizes "color pollution" of viewing areas caused by reflections from chromatic surfaces. When D50 or D65 standard illumination is reflected from colored walls, etc., its color quality changes so it is no longer "standard". The application of a neutral gray to chromatic surfaces will eliminate such color pollution by providing spectrally neutral surfaces around the viewing area.

Free shipping applies to orders over $900 and under 40lbs dimensional weight of the shipping box. Paint and replacement lamps are excluded. Free shipping is available to the contiguous 48 US states and for online purchases only.

We make every effort to get your product delivered as expediently as possible. Orders placed after 12:00 PM MST may not ship that day. RPimaging, INC may not have all items in stock. Our online store does not provide real-time stock availability. Please call to confirm stock before placing an order. Orders placed by international checkout button are fulfilled by FedEX Cross Border.

Domestic Shipping

RPimaging, INC does not guarantee any delivery time. Shipping terms (i.e. 2nd Day, 3rd Day delivery) refer to the time quoted by the shipper for delivery. These shipping terms do not refer to time from order submission to delivery. Shipper tracking numbers are provided, when available, the day after the product has shipped. Economy and Free shipping options are limited to the 48 contiguous US states. Freight shipment and packages over 40lbs are excluded from Economy and Free shipping offers. Customer purchase orders with payment terms are excluded from free shipping offers. We reserve the right to rescind Economy and/or Free shipping offers for any reason. Orders are shipped Free On Board (FOB) Origin unless otherwise noted.

International Shipping

All international packages are subject to relevant duties and taxes.

We strive to ensure you are satisfied with your purchase but understand that sometimes it's not a good fit. Below are our policies:

No return will be accepted without a RMA (Return Material Authorization) number. Any return without a RMA number will be refused.
You are responsible for return shipping costs.
No refund or exchanges are allowed after 30 days from the invoice date.
Returns are subject up to a 20% restocking fee. Most of the time restocking fees are nominal.
All returned items must be 100% complete, in original resalable packaging, in resalable condition, with all packaging, manuals, registration cards, accessories, UPC codes intact, and software.
Software products that use a serial number and not a dongle key can only be replaced with the same title and version if found to be defective.
No returns on replacement light bulbs.
No returns on special order items not listed on our online catalog.
No returns or exchanges for any non-domestic shipments.

Paint Particulates

Received one pint of N-7 Matte Gray Air Gray Hydrolux 165T-3 GTI PT#173421 Preparation Date 02/16/18. Pint received in July, 2021 and first opened in August 2021. Paint is full of dirt like particulates or clumpy substances which have dried onto the painted surface. The pint was mixed well prior to use and has a super thick consistency. A brand new synthetic brush was used for the application. Unable to smooth out the clumps. It’s disappointing that for the cost of this product quality is questionable. Not something I’d purchase again.
