    Standard Gray Neutral 8

Formulated for use in color viewing areas in the graphic arts and photographic industries which require a neutral gray surround equivalent to Munsell N8.

    Standard Gray Neutral 7

A slightly darker tone specifically formulated for use in color viewing areas in the paints, plastics, textiles, and other non-graphics related industries which require a neutral gray surround equivalent to Munsell N7.

    Standard Gray Neutral 5

Specially formulated to provide approximately 18% neutral gray surfaces equivalent to Munsell N5. This paint is used to create ideal surroundings for a variety of imaging applications.

    Not All Grays Are Neutral!

    Munsell Neutral Gray Paint

A "neutral" gray is not simply a black-white mix, but an equal mixture of all the visible spectrum(r-o-y-g-b-i-v) colors. A spectrophotometric measurement of such a gray will show it to contain approximately equal amounts of those spectrum colors. Non-neutral grays, however, have unequal amounts of the spectrum colors, causing a cold or warm color shift under different lighting conditions.

A neutral paint minimizes "color pollution" of viewing areas caused by reflections from chromatic surfaces. When D50 A near white light source used in the evaluation of graphic arts and imaging applications. Also used as reference illuminant for color matching in LAB color space.

It has similar amounts of red, green, and blue energy. It neither accentuates nor subdues color, a prime requirement when viewing press sheets and proofs since a wide range of colors can exist in an image.
or D65 A light bluish colored light source used in color matching applications of paints, plastics, textiles, raw inks, and other manufactured products. D65 appears more neutral in balance to the eye even though the spectral graph does not correlate. D65 accentuates blue and subdues green and red.

D65 is the only daylight source that was actually measured. The other daylight sources were mathematically derived from these measurements. D65 is derived from the average of measurements made of light coming in a north facing window in the northern (European) hemisphere on an overcast day at various times through the day throughout the year.

D65 is also the reference illuminant used in sRGB and Adobe RGB (1998) color spaces. HDTV and SMPTE-C (SDTV) also use D65 as the reference white point.
standard illumination is reflected from colored walls, etc., its color quality changes so it is no longer "standard". The application of a neutral gray to chromatic surfaces will eliminate such color pollution by providing spectrally neutral surfaces around the viewing area.
