Built-In SelfCalibration Sensor

Built-In Calibration Sensor

Eizo CG277 internal color measurement The EIZO CG277W features a built-in sensor that is housed within the monitor’s bottom bezel and swings up onto the screen when calibration begins. This sensor eliminates the need for a third-party calibration device and even operates in portrait mode.

Self-Calibrating Monitor

Using either the OSD menu or the bundled ColorNavigator software, you can schedule the ColorEdge CG277 to self-calibrate at specific times. Reassuringly, even if the monitor is switched off or not even connected to a computer, it will stick to its preset schedule and self-calibrate.

OS-Independent Calibration

Since the PC itself is not necessary for self-calibration, the ability to calibrate the monitor is not dependent on using an operating system supported by the ColorNavigator software. Therefore, a calibrated ColorEdge CG277 can be used with Linux even though ColorNavigator currently does not support this OS.

Correlation with Other Sensors

The ColorEdge CG277 can be correlated to the measurement results of an external calibration sensor. This is convenient if the ColorEdge CG277 is used in a work environment with other ColorEdge monitors and one measurement device must be used as a standard for all calibration. Correlation is done with a new “Correlation Utility” included with the bundled ColorNavigator software.

What’s New with the ColorEdge CG277

Simple and Precise Calibration with ColorNavigator

ColorNavigatorThe bundled ColorNavigator software makes calibration both simple and quick. Just input target values for brightness, white point, and gamma.. The built-in sensor directly utilizes the monitor's look-up table and creates an ICC profile within minutes. What's more, you can always download the latest version of ColorNavigator for free here on

Wide Color Gamut

Color AreaThe CG277 LED reproduces 99% of the Adobe RGB color space so it can display almost all the colors of a photo in Adobe RGB mode. You'll be able to proof GRACoL and SWOP files confidently with 100% color space inclusion.

Excellent Tone Display in the Dark

Eizo CG277 reduced glare - super blacks

When viewing the screen from an angle in a dimly lit room, dark tones typically appear washed out due to the display characteristics of LCD backlights. The monitor maintains a high contrast ratio even from an angle which allows the dark tones to retain their depth.

Non-Glare IPS Panel

The CG277 IPS (in-plane switching) panel exhibits virtually no glare so several people can view the monitor with minimal color shift.

LED Backlight Cuts Power by 40%

The LED backlight reduces energy consumption by 40% compared to a conventional backlight. It is also mercury-free for less impact on the environment when it is eventually disposed of.

Brightness Modulation Minimizes Flicker

To counteract the flicker that is noticeable by some users at low brightness settings, EIZO uses PWM (pulse width modulation) technology. This helps prevent eye fatigue for a more comfortable work environment.

Features for Creative Work

Brightness and Color Uniformity with DUE

CG275W uniformity

Standard monitors constantly fall victim to fluctuations in brightness and chromaticity across the screen area. EIZO has incorporated their patented digital uniformity equalizer (DUE) technology to ensure a Delta-E difference of 3 or less across the screen when the monitor leaves the factory. DUE also counterbalances the influences that fluctuating ambient temperature has on color temperature and brightness, which allows you to rest assured you'll see the same color no matter what climate you're in.

Stop Waiting For Warm Up

With most standard monitors, there is upwards of a 30 minute wait time before the brightness, chromaticity, and tone characteristics stabilize. EIZO has taken this into account on their new model by shortening this wait time to a mere 7 minutes (more than a 75% reduction). If you're worried about productivity and uptime, and every second counts, then the CG277 is a right fit for you.

10-Bit Simultaneous Display

The monitor can display 10-bit color from a 16-bit look-up table via its DisplayPort input*. This is more than 1 billion colors shown simultaneously which is 64 times greater than the 16.7 million colors of 8-bit display. The result is even smoother color gradations and reduced Delta-E between two adjacent colors.

*A graphics board and software which support 10-bit output are also necessary for 10-bit display.

3D LUT for Better Additive Color Mixture

The monitor utilizes a new EIZO-developed 3D LUT. Whereas a typical 1D LUT adjusts color on separate tables for each red, green, and blue, a 3D LUT accomplishes this on a single, mixed-color cubic table. A 3D LUT improves the monitor's additive color mixture (combination of RGB), a key factor in its ability to display neutral gray tones.

Factory Adjustment of Gamma
gamma correction

To ensure that each ColorEdge monitor produces the most accurate and consistent color gradations possible, EIZO carefully measures and sets every shade of R, G, and B from 0 – 255 on the production line with the monitor's 16-bit Look-Up Table, to produce a monitor gamma value of 2.2. Should the user prefer a different value, ColorNavigator software can be used to set the gamma value from a range of 1.0 up to 2.6 in increments of 0.1.

ColorNavigator 6

Free Software

The bundled ColorNavigator software makes calibration both simple and quick. Just input target values for brightness, white point, and gamma. The built-in sensor directly utilizes the monitor's look-up table and creates an ICC profile within minutes. You can always download the latest version of ColorNavigator for free on

Color Matching with Other Monitors

ColorNavigator 6 factors for the different characteristics between ColorEdge monitors and calibration devices to provide accurate results.

Import / Export Adjustment Targets

Import and export your post-adjustment target profiles and share the same target values in multiple usage environments.

Calibrate Your Monitor to Another Profile

If you want to conduct color management between monitors in a workflow ColorNavigator 6 lets you load the profile of another ColorEdge monitor and use it to calibrate your own.

Profile Validation

To verify calibration results or check to see how much the monitor's colors have varied since it was last calibrated, ColorNavigator 6 measures the monitor's color patches to determine the difference between the Delta-E value of the monitor's profile and the actual displayed values of the monitor

Comfort and Convenience

Verification Documents Included

EIZO stands behind the quality of the ColorEdge series by including two verification documents with each monitor. One document verifies the uniformity on 25 points across the screen while the other certifies that all 256 color tones on the gamma curve were individually adjusted at the factory.

Multiple Inputs
Eizo CG277 inputs connectors

DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI-D inputs are included and support resolutions up to 2560 x 1440. The HDMI input also offers direct connection with digital cameras. Two USB upstream ports allow two computers to be connected at once so it’s not necessary to reconnect the USB cable when using the ColorNavigator software and switching between the two computers.

Ideal for Video Editing and Post Production

button guide
LED Buttons and On-Screen Button Guide

For dimly lit work environments, the LED front buttons can be backlit to seven different brightness settings. An on-screen button guide appears above the buttons to indicate what each one is for.

1080/24p Playback

Film is usually shot at 24 frames/second and looks unnatural when played back on a typical monitor that displays 60 frames/second. The HDMI input supports a video signal display rate of 1080/24p frames-per-second so you can edit the film as it was meant to be viewed.

Range Extension

All ColorEdge models give studio professionals the advantage of using the monitor's entire 10-bit grayscale range to see more detail when doing fine editing work in very dark and very light tones. Setting the screen to show the entire 10-bit grayscale range reveals either 6% or 14% more gray tones from 0 (true black) to 1023 (true white) compared to common broadcast signal display range capabilities.

Preset Color Modes

A button on the front of the monitor provides quick access to several broadcast-standard color modes reset color modes: Rec. 709, EBU, SMPTE-C, and DCI. In addition, sRGB and Adobe RGB modes are also available.

Customer Reviews

what you see on screen matches exactly color proofs

this monitor is must for any professional photographic production. especially for small photo post production and photo studios. When calibrating other monitors with separate spectrometers, their are not nearly as spot on as this one. software is very well done and allows to jump from one calibration to another such as for USA printing, magazine, advertising, to European standards. The vertical view is sort of pointless because the screen is very wide and turns into narrow sided/ elongated, though it is cool.
